Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan

I have now added the 10 volumes of the Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan collections of live Dylan covers to the Unofficial page of Dylan Cover Albums (see 12/21 post.)
The series is available on-line via BitTorrent at dimeadozen.org (individual volumes) or bt.dylantree.com (complete 10-volume set, with artwork.) The artwork is also available separately as jpg files. See listing for links.
I am unable to download BitTorrents, so if anyone can supply them on CDR or DVD-ROM by B&P or trade. or freebie :), please contact me.

Addition: Non-Dylan Tribute - CashGrass

Added to Non-Dylan Tributes:
CashGrass by The Grassmasters with Girl From The North Country, from the Synergy Grass Series. I'm surprised there is no Dylan tribute in this series!
This title does not seem to be available from retailers yet.

New in the DylanCover.com collection: Living Earth

Two new tribute concerts

Two new tribute concerts added to the Festivals & Tribute Concerts page:
Berlin Bobbirth Bash '06: Most of a night
The Bluebird Café, Berlin Germany
April 30, 2006
This CDR was produced for the private use of the performers only, it is NOT available to the public. I have broken my "publicly available" rule and listed it because MP3s of some of the tracks were posted at the DylanPool forum with the permission of the performers. Too bad, what I've heard is very good.

Million Dollar Bash
NOW Lounge, Toronto, Canada
May 26, 2006
Features Robert and The Zimmermans and several guest performers. No artwork was provided for this concert. A bit torrent of the show is available at bt.dylantree.com

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
John Montgomery

When I Paint My Masterpiece (4:58)
John Montgomery
One Step Away
CD: Circus Drum Records CIR 00010; 2002 (US)

Another singer-songwriter includes a Dylan song, this the debut album of California-based s/s John Montgomery. A nice, slow tempo country tinged version of Masterpiece.

Low cost used copies at: amazon.com
Also available from: amazon.co.uk / amazon.de / amazon.ca

New downloads & streams

The Unplugged Tribute to Bob Dylan CD (see 12/9 post) is already available via download from iTunes Europe (not in US).
Thanks to Jean-Pol Hiernaux for the tip.

Japan's Joker777 has added listen-only streams of new versions of From a Buick 6, Like A Rolling Stone and Maggie's Farm to his SoundClick webpage.

10 volumes of the Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan collections of live Dylan covers are now available in a single torrent, with artwork, from bt.dylantree.com
DataBase note: Many of these tracks are already listed in the DataBase from other sources. I am only adding tracks from these collections if they are previously unlisted.
Since these are available on-line, at dimeadozen.org and now bt.dylantree.com, I will eventually be adding them to the Unofficial page of Dylan Cover Albums.
I am torrent-less, so I can't download them :(
First offer for a freebie or B&P accepted!

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
James Lee Stanley

Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (5:42)
You Go your Way, I'll Go Mine (4:53)
James Lee Stanley
Traces of The Old Road
CD: Beachwood Recordings BR24682; 2002 (US)

James Lee Stanley has been described as "probably the last great undiscovered singer-songwriter in America." On this, his 17th and otherwise self-penned album, he includes 2 Dylan songs. It's perhaps another testament to Dylan that songwriters often include a Bob song or two on their own albums.

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Mud Boy & The Neutrons

Stuck Inside of Mobile with
the Memphis Blues Again (2:45)
Mud Boy & The Neutrons
In the Mood For Memphis
(various artists)
CD: Inside Sounds ISC-0518;
2003 compilation (US)

Finding the original 1986 French LP "Known Felons in Drag" (New Rose 98) by the legendary and enigmatic Memphis alt-rock band Mud Boy & The Neutrons would be difficult and probably costly. Finding the 1995 US compilation "They Walk Among Us" isn't much easier. So it's lucky for Dylan cover collectors that Inside Sounds included the Mud Boy cover of Memphis Blues Again on this readily available and very enjoyable compilation of songs with Memphis in their titles. There is also a Volume 2 (no Dylan) if you enjoy this one.

Available from: amazon.com / amazon.co.uk / amazon.de / amazon.ca
Also available from CD Baby

Downloads

Kurt Matthew has added 4 new covers to his SoundClick.com site:

Thank You

Over the almost 8 years DylanCover.com and Dylan Cover Albums have been on-line, a few people have asked if there was a way to make donations to support the site, for which I have been very grateful. I've had a few such offers lately so I have added a few "Make a Donation" buttons on the main pages, and in the sidebar to the right on this page. They are there for the convenience of those who would like to help, I do not intend to actively campaign for donations or to mention it often.
While on the subject of support, thanks to all who use my Amazon links. The 4th quarter of 2006 has been the best to date in terms of orders placed. -- Dave

New in the DylanCover.com collection: Charlie Major

Oh Sister (3:47)
Charlie Major
444
CD: Dead Reckoning 3797; 1999 (Canada/US)

Canadian country singer-songwriter Charlie Major's version of Oh Sister isn't much different than the original: replace Scarlet's "violin" with a "fiddle" - it is a country version! - have Cowboy Junkies' Margo Timmins sing Emmylou's part, and add some country twang. Major had been a star in Canada for years before 444, his first venture into the US market.
Found yesterday in the CD rack of an "Everything $1" store.

This CD is listed in the Dylan Covers Country Collector's Guide.

Available (starting at 1¢) from: amazon.com
Also from: amazon.co.uk / amazon.de / amazon.ca

New in the DylanCover.com collection: HR

Shelter From The Storm (3:24)
HR
A Weekend on Earth
CD: Lunge - UPC#710621000227; 1999 (US)

HR was a Texas band whose sound was described as “Jangly power pop, with a Celtic sensibility.” Their 1999 sophomore album includes a Shelter From The Storm that rocks a bit harder than the typical Shelter cover. Their website is gone, I assume the band is defunct as well.
Available from: amazon.com and CD Baby

Correction - NOT McFerrin

The entry for Blowin' In the Wind by Bobby McFerrin I added to the DataBase Next Update Preview recently is incorrect. It's listed that way everwhere, All Music Guide, Amazon, etc., but it's wrong!
The BITW on the Ultimate Reggae Rocks CD is the version by The Abyssinians, from the Blowin' In The Wind: A Reggae Tribute to Bob Dylan CD.

It won't be reflected in the on-line Dylan Covers DataBase until the next first-of-month update, but my master database has now passed the 17,000 mark!

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
Kristin Lomholt

Simple Twist Of Fate (5:23)
Kristin Lomholt
Spell
CD: Whaling City Sound WCS035; 2006 (US)

Denmark native Kristin Lomholt, now based in the US, delivers a pop/jazz vocal version of Simple Twist Of Fate, with too much "filler" for my tastes. The first minute is "ah-ah-ah's" before the lyrics start, and the final minute is more "ah-ah-ah's" and a repeated "simple twist of fate" chorus.
Available from: amazon.com / amazon.co.uk / amazon.de / amazon.ca

New in the DylanCover.com collection:
The Kentucky Headhunters

Like A Rolling Stone (5:57)
The Kentucky Headhunters
Big Boss Man
CD: CBuJ Entertainment CBJ0618; 2005 (US)

Hype for this album of covers by the Southern-rock band The Kentucky Headhunters read in part:
"...it can lead to a radical, top-to-bottom rearrangement, as in their treatment of "Like a Rolling Stone"--which, against all odds, uncovers something in the song that even Bob Dylan left untouched."
While it is a good Southern/country-rock version, it doesn't warrant such a bold statement. I have to agree with one reviewer who had a conflicting view, that the cover "doesn't stray too far away from the originals' sound and approach."
